				　　本片根據美國小說家托馬斯·科布（Thomas Cobb）的同名小說改編拜德·布雷克（杰夫·布里吉斯 Jeff Bridges 飾）是一名酗酒成性的落魄藍調鄉村歌手在新墨西哥州州府圣菲市表演時認識了圣菲報的記者琴（瑪吉·吉倫哈爾 Maggie Gyllenhaal 飾）瀕臨破產的拜德趕往鳳凰城為自己的舊時學生新晉鄉村紅歌星湯米·斯威特（科林·法瑞爾 Colin Farrell 飾）的演唱會開場演唱會后在從鳳凰城到圣菲市的路上拜德出車禍在琴家養傷二人情愫漸生拜德重新開始寫歌并向多年好友韋恩（羅伯特·杜瓦爾 Robert Duvall 飾）傾訴心聲一切似乎都在向著好的方向進行但在琴攜四歲的兒子來休斯頓探訪拜德的過程中一件意外卻讓拜德真正意識到自己的人生路在何方……
